Beach surf Education!!

“WOW! Mairangi Bay looks awesome” I said to my friend Rachael, she replied back and said “I know” “doesn’t it look cool”

Last week on Friday the year7 hop on a bus and was on there way down to Mairangi bay for a surf life Saving Education. We were learning about how to keep ourselfs safe in the water.

When we got there we were welcome by 3 lifeguard. There names were Rosie Relcow and and Megan . They were also wearing there lifeguard uniform.

The things that I have learn't thats imporant when you are at beach is to always swim between the flags and also don't go swimming when you are tired or cold. Also do not go swimming alone because something really cool might happen when you are alone and if you tell people they might not believe you.

Mairangi Bay was really cool I learn't alot about water safety and really hope we can go there some other time.

All shipshape and ready to sail!! (reading task)

In room 19 my group in reading Kiwi have been reading All shipshape and ready to sail. This was about getting ready to sail in a optimist dinghy and checking important things before sailing. Once we had read we than had a task to do. The task we had to do was to draw a optimist dinghy and label different parts of the boat. Also here is a little check list that you might need to check before sailing a optimist dinghy!

  • Is your Life jacket on and done up?
  • Remember to put the rudder blade down when you get going because it helps the boat to move.
  • Are the drains plugs in so the boat doesn't fill up with water.
  • Have you got the bailer tied in?
  • A last look at the weather.
Then you are ready to go!!

Glee!!

Have you heard about this amazing program called 'Glee'?!!

In this program has a group of young teenagers that particapate in group called Glee. Glee is all about loving music and putting on a show that makes you want to enjoy it.

When I first started watching 'Glee' I was so into it. I even started watching every episode.

One of my favourite song's that they performed on 'Glee' is when Rachael (Lea Michelle) and Jesse (Johnathan) first met and sang 'Hello' by Lionel Richie. I also like when Rachael (Lea Michelle) and her Mom sang 'Poker face' by Lady Gaga.

I'm sure if you watch 'Glee' you will love it and enjoy it as much as I do!!

'Spongebob Square pants'!!

Have you heard of Spongebob Square Pants?

'Spongebob Square Pants' is a yellow sponge cartoon charcter. He has a pet snail named 'Gary' and his friends are 'Sandy',' Sqiudward', 'Mr Krabs' and his one and olny best friend 'Patrick Star'. His favourite stuff to is going Jelly fishing and cooking kraby patties at the Krusty Krabs. Mr 'Square Pants' also lives in a Pine Apple under the sea which is called the 'Bikini Bottom'!!

Do you know how fossils are formed?

Dinosaurs lived on earth for 160 millons years ago. Suddenly all the Dinosaurs extinct 65 millons years ago. The bodies of some Dinosaurs were covered by sand and dirt, after they were extinct. The bones were hidden for millon's of years, water and minerals seep through the sand and slowly turned the bones into stones. Heavy wind and rain wash away part of the sand and dirt. Then part of the dinosaur can be seen. A scientist than finds the fossil of a Dinosaur and carefully, digs it out of the stone to take to a museum and study.

Awesome Immersion assemblies!!

At Point England School at the beginning of each term we have immersions assemblies. If you don't know what they are here's your time to find out.

Immersion assemblies are when teachers dress up and perform little skits to show us what our theme for the term is.

Some of the theme I still remember is when we were learning about "Food Glorious food" "Under water world" ,"Light Fantastic" ,"The Art in storytelling" ,"Around the world in 80 day's and "Up Up and away".

If I had to choose one of my favourite theme's it would have to be "Up up and away". I loved it because some of the teachers were acting like planes and one teacher was the flight attendant.

I'm sure if your school held immersion assemblies, you would love them as much as I do!!

The Auckland Volcanic field

The Auckland volcanic field is made up of 50 basalt volcanoes.
The volcanic field is a hot spot because it in the middle of a tectonic plate, not around the edge.
Some volcanoes in the volcanic field only erupt once which means it is a mono-genetic volcano. There are some other volcanoes such as Rangitoto that erupt more than once these are polygenetic volcanoes.
The Auckland Volacnic field is a 1/4 (quarter) of a million years old.

When One Tree hill erupted its lava flow reached the edge of Mount Smart which made Mount Smart erupt. The lava flow finally found its escape route into the Manukau River Valley. The result was a 4 metre drop in the water level.

Some day in the future I hope there will be no volcanic eruption.
I will hate to see one.

Rocks

Rocks

Have you heard of these rocks before?

1) IGNEOUS ROCKS-
Igneous rocks are types of rocks that have crystals inside them.
When the molten magma rises to the earths surface it then cools down into Igneous rocks.
The Latin word for 'Igneous' is 'Ignis' which means fire. Pumice is an Igneous rock too.

2) SEDIMENTARY ROCKS-
Sedimentary rocks are made out of tiny grains of sand, clay, rock, plants, and animal skeletons. They fall down onto the ocean floor and over millions years, these are pressed together by the weight of water and layers of sediment on top to make Sedimentary rocks(the word 'sediment' means to 'settle in layers').
They also can have fossils inside them.
Limestone is a Sedimentary rock.

3) Metamorphic ROCKS-
Did you know deep in the earth's crust, rocks are crushed and 'cooked' into new rocks, that's why they are very hard. These rocks are called Metamophic('meta' means 'changed', and 'morph' means 'shape'). Marble is also a Metamorphic rock.

The Legend of Mt Taranaki

How Active is Our earth?

This term we are learning about Active Earth. We were asked to retell the story about the Legend of Mt Taranaki. My group chose to do green screening because we thought it would be a great way to retell the story.

My team members were Mui, Tracey, Mauina Including myself. We worked well as a team. We also had different responsibility. Mauina and Mui did the voice-over and I gathered all the photo's and we all worked on editing the project.

I really enjoyed working on this project and I also loved working with my team. Our group was also pleased with the result that we had. YES! we had the top marks which was 23/25.

My Netball star Casey Williams!

My favourite netball player is Casey Williams. She is an awesome player. Her position in netball is goal Keep and Goal Defence. She also plays for the Silver Ferns.

Casey Williams is a very good role model and a awesome team supporter. She is very talented and has her own passions in her sport. She also takes part in what she does.

One day I really like to meet her and tell her how awesome she is in netball. I also want to have her signature and a poster. You rock Casey Willams!

Log joust at camp kindness2010!

Have you done log Joust before?

My favourite activity at camp Kindness was called the Log Joust. Log joust is a kind of activity that involves padded weapons. The kind of padded weapons we used were a shield and a bag with stuffing in it to try and knock them down.

The activity Log Joust was held at Pt England School at the bottom field. We had know idea that this was going to be at our school. Until we came down from technology it was all set up.

The person who was in charge of the Log Joust activity was Savannah. Savannah told us all the things that we needed to know. She also told us the rules for the activity.

The aim of the activity is to try and get the person down by hitting the person your versing. You have to use your padded weapons , and hit them on the lower body. There's only one important rule that you should know, when you hit, you can't hit the head because it will hurts and you will have no points.

One day you might want to experience Log Joust and see how awesome this activity is!
