League Session

On Thursday the 22nd of June 2011, room 22 had a opportunity to have a league session with Sio Siua Taukeiaho. He plays for the 2011 Vodafone Junior Warrior squad. We did alot of cool activity’s.

One of the activity that we did during the session was, Sio Siua split us up into 4 groups and each group had to line up on there own line of cones. After that the person in front of the line has to hold onto a league ball and then has to zig zag through the people that are lined up. Once they zig zag through all the people that person then has to sprint back to the yellow line and place the ball down like getting a try. This was also a competition against the other groups.

I had a go at doing it and I got to say it was fun and a bit hard at the same time trying to zig zag through people.

To finish off the session we had a fun game called kick tennis and it’s was also my favourite activity. One of the groups had to combine with one of the other group and that was the same for the other two groups. Then we ended up with 2 groups. We were given 3 balls each. With those 3 balls we had to kick the ball to the other team but above there shoulders. When the ball goes over to the other team they are meant to catch it and then kick it back to the opposite team. Not to mention there were also rules and they were if you don’t catch the ball you are out, If you move away from the ball when its coming towards you, you are out and also with you kick the ball to low you are also out.

I really enjoyed the league session and I hope we have another opportunity like this.

The science roadshow

Last week on Thursday the 9th of June 2011 the year 7 & 8 walked down to Tamaki College for a science roadshow. This was meant to help us get a better understanding of our new topic for this term which is Bigger, Better, Faster and Stronger. There were lot of awesome exhibit to look at.

As I said before we were split into groups of six, I was also one the people that were leaders. The people that were in my group were Maree Michael, Rose and Ilalio. As we got there the leaders had to go and and choose a exhibit from the following area to report about. The exhibit that I chose to do was about Heat. One of the theme in the exhibit was about heat and colour and thats what my group chose to report about. The things that was included in this exhibit was that you had to push this button so that the lights turns and then you had to watch the sensitive panels and see what it does.

From this exhibit I found out that the light bounces of the colour that is heat sensitive. For example, Black grabs all the heat and nothing bounces off and colour says I grab some heat and bounce some off. Also I think that the science idea demonstrated that the different colour absorbs different amount of heat.

After studying the exhibit that we chose to report about, I decided then to go around and and experience some of the other science road show. My Favourite one was the Magic Hand. You had to Put your hand on one of the round theremin, then you had to move your hand around on the other round theremin and it will make a sound.

I really enjoyed the science roadshow and it also helped me get a better understanding of our topic. I also hope we get to do this kind of thing next year!

Swimming

For the last two weeks during lunch times, the year 7 & 8 had swimming lessons, down at the Glen Innes YMCA pools. We would always walk because it wasn’t a long way to get there. Also the reason why we had swimming lessons is so that we know how to swim because the country that I live in is surrounded by water which is called New Zealand.

I didn’t go swimming because of some medical reasons. But I do know how important swimming lessons are. Swimming lessons are important because it helps builds your swimming skills and it’s also important for survival and emergency.

As I said before why I didn’t go swimming because of some medical reasons, but I still wanted to go swimming because every time I look at them swimming it looked fun and it also made want to go swimming next time we have swimming lessons.

I was a bit disappointed because I missed out all of the important swimming lessons. But there is still next time.
